Rewatching TOMBSTONE. I often wonder what makes this film “the one western I like” to so many people that don’t like westerns. It’s not subversive. It lovingly embraces the tropes. It’s not overly “artistic.” It’s a straightforward western. But it has one thing others do not: Val Kilmer. RIP

Gene Hackman was the kind of actor that could take any kind of role & elevate it in the most unassuming way; it doesn't matter if he was playing a basketball coach, an obsessed investigator, or a scenery-chewing villain. His work always felt effortless, but the results showed you the opposite. RIP.
