I had a great meeting with Mayor Moss of Selma! We discussed Selma’s ongoing federally funded projects and even toured some of the progress that’s been made.

I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Ms. JoAnne Bland — a freedom fighter and daughter of Selma, Alabama. It was Foot Soldiers like JoAnne who put their lives and freedom on the line for the right of all Americans to vote.

I had a great meeting with the UAB family medical program residents and faculty at Vaughan Regional Medical Center! This program and programs like it are essential for ensuring our rural residents have access to quality, affordable healthcare.

I had a great meeting with ¡HICA! about immigration and what’s going on in Alabama. I look forward to working together to support individuals who are being impacted by this administration’s immigration policies!

Today I was thrilled to tour the Lovelady Center and see the progress being made to improve their phenomenal campus! I was proud to secure $2 Million for this exciting project in FY 2023, which incudes roof repairs and updates to their dorms! 🙌🏾

This #BlackHistoryMonth we honor Benjamin Sterling Turner. Elected in 1870 to represent Alabama’s 1st Congressional District, Turner was Alabama’s first Black congressman. A former slave and self-made businessman, Turner was dedicated to reviving the war-torn South.

I spoke with one of my constituents whose employees are seeing their health insurance premiums SKYROCKET! Trump and Republicans created this mess. They need to work with us to fix it!

Last night, voters across the nation spoke loud and clear. They want leaders who will lower costs and fight on behalf of the American people. Republicans should take note. It’s time for them to come to table and negotiate a bipartisan bill to protect health care, fund SNAP, and reopen government!

I met with Head Start leaders from across our district about how this government shutdown is impacting early childhood education in Alabama. We need a bipartisan agreement to end this shutdown, lower health care costs, and fully fund our Head start programs. Our children are counting on us!

This president has lost his mind! The fact that he would defy court orders in order to starve hungry families is sickening. Mr. President, follow the law, do your job, and release the SNAP funds!!!

I applaud Mayor Woodfin and the Birmingham City Council for taking action to keep families fed during this SNAP crisis. I was proud to offer my support for the $1 million allocation during today’s city council meeting.

With SNAP benefits at risk for millions of families, I convened a roundtable with community leaders in Tuscaloosa about how we can work together to stand in the gap. In these trying times, it’s great to see our community stepping up in a big way to help those in need.

We are in a full-blown health care crisis of Donald Trump’s making. While billionaires celebrate new tax breaks, hard working Alabamians are about to see their annual premiums skyrocket. We need Congressional Republicans to come to the negotiating table and stop this madness!
