If you are a mainstream genre writer of course you're in trouble. Predigested writing can be written by a computer now. No more Stephen Kings on the horizon I fear.

Music has become a fragmented art. Esp. Jazz and Rock. Look at the dizzying amount of subgenres. Lit/poetry is going the same way. We will all be working in cloistered monasteries sharing our work with like minds. But that's okay. Embrace it! There's more freedom to be had.

It's okay to work in extreme obscurity. Esp. if you're doing avant stuff. No one cares what you're doing. No one. Esp. if it has no monetary value to Capital. But that's one good reason to do it. Even if your art sucks. Though you hope it doesn't. But you *do* have the freedom to perfect it.

I keep hearing "art is dead." But why? Because no one cares about it? Yes. I agree with that. Because the general public hates "art." Or the mainstream does.

Thinking about Su Hui’s Xuanji Tu, sometimes translated as Star Gauge but better translated as The Map of the Armillary Sphere. The poem is from 4AD, one of the most complex poems ever, being part of the Chinese tradition of reversible poems -- a networked palindrome of over 12000 possible poems.
