I've had an interesting week with #apprenticeship over at JTW. First, I wrote about some funky numbers from the Trump Administration on apprenticeship, frustration with its growth efforts, and the ways its politics block it from good options.

Also, there are SO MANY progressives who literally live in these spaces and spend a lot of their lives advocating their positions (be it through direct political action or casual conversations with co-workers, friends, and neighbors) in spaces hostile to those ideas.

This is part of why I don’t buy the Mark Cuban “They’re brain geniuses it couldn’t be true!” theory. I know good investigative reporting is on a downswing, but the Clips really badly mismanaged the response here, so why wouldn’t they have done really dumb stuff?

This is the missing piece. A lot of companies make money through mergers and rearrangement of paper. It’s refreshing if you actually make good stuff and sell it to people to make a reasonable profit.

Seconded. I’m in a niche space where my criticism is fairly even handed and technical. People have FLOCKED to my newsletter because they’re tired of people who don’t say anything because they’re afraid—and corp media have dismissed their space as not worth the coverage.

Becoming increasingly clear we’re gonna have to build a parallel infrastructure for all the media we really love. The reason all of this is happening under the color of law is hyperconsolidation, dissent being traded straight up for merger approval, or fear of harassment.

New JOBS THAT WORK: Republicans are enthralled with how Utah blends #workforce and #welfare because it cuts bureaucracy. They're missing the real lesson, which is that it lets workforce be welfare and lets that be a good thing by making a jobs training for humans.
