You can also require alt text for all images you share. I do, and can't post an image without alt text. bsky.app/profile/bhav... has more details.

If you're not familiar with Alt Text, there's a great primer thread here on what it is & why it's important: bsky.app/profile/bhav... To help you remember alt text for your posts, you can go to your Bsky Settings > Accessibility > Check the box for "Require alt text before posting"

4. How to add AltText on BlueSky?  BlueSky has an option to add these image descriptions through AltText. For doing so, when you upload an image to this platform, you get an option to add the AltText at the top left corner. Once you click on this you can add a thousand character description. /6

The history of alt text goes back to 1993. The alt attribute was introduced for HTML 1.2 to be used for text-based browsers, which load faster by not loading most of the graphic content. This was a big deal when bandwidth connections were super limited.

Alt text is easier than you think, and Bhavya does a great breakdown! Currently, only 12% of images on bsky have alt text. We can do better! (The good place should be good for everyone 💙)
