Trump ruins everything he touches… #WorldCup

We have a long way to go, and we aren’t satisfied. But, we are so grateful that Chicago’s violence was reduced by more than 50% this July 4th holiday weekend, & we had exactly zero shootings in the four south and west neighborhoods @chicagocred.bsky.social serves. I so appreciate all the hard work!

Unfortunately, in places like Chicago, the holidays are often a time of increased violence, not peace. We have to stay present in communities, deescalate any conflicts, and do our best to keep everyone safe. @chicagocred.bsky.social

When I see this, I think of the Hedge of Job. Man’s free will allows for ridiculousness. God’s omnipotent will (and protection) protects us always. We don’t know what happened before or after this photo, but one thing is certain…they feel an energy from her and they know better than to find out.

I hate everything about this, & I hate that Trump has emboldened these losers! And to the young girl sitting there by herself: I am so sorry you had to face this hatred! And, please know, you have way more courage than all of these racists combined- you are the only one willing to show your face.

I’ll be in town toward the end of the month for a friend’s wedding. Although the museum tickets are sold out, I’d love to go walk the free parts. And I could use some happy place feeling.

The July 4th holiday weekend is a time of celebration for many. For us @chicagocred.bsky.social, it’s a time when we all have to work as hard as can we can to help keep people safe. Please: 1. Know your surroundings 2. Avoid large crowds 3. Limit your alcohol consumption 4. Be smart with fireworks

It is fascinating to watch: as hard as Trump tries to divide us by race and by country- to divide and attack the vulnerable- at the same time the World Cup is uniting us and reminding us all how much we have in common. Trump’s outspoken hate is losing to the nonverbal power of sport to spread love.

@chicagocred.bsky.social we constantly teach, and preach, nonaggression. How to deescalate conflicts, how to control your emotions, how to not give away your power to act to others- these are all the skills that can literally be the difference between life and death.

Teen trends can be out of control and dangerous for the teens themselves, the police & the larger community. We must create alternative safe places for our teens. But I promise you, at every trend there are so many great kids looking to talk, connect and learn. Let’s meet them where they are!
