This was such a brilliant conference. I learnt so much about histories of infertility, about how to locate these histories, and about how to communicate this work creatively. So many thoughts for my new project! Thanks so much for having me

Alongside being a historian, I work in youth participation, and last year worked alongside Trussell to develop a report exploring the hopes and experiences of young people experiencing financial hardship. You can take a look at the report here:

Really looking forward to being part of this Locating Loss conference in May, speaking on a roundtable about my new project on slavery and infertility.

's project is brilliant, bringing together historians, health professionals and others to consider spaces of loss.

The problem when I graduated was that there were 200 modern British history PhDs putting in applications for every job, you had to apply for like 50 jobs to get one, and a fair few people left academia before they did. That was unpleasant in its own way, but it wasnât a death spiral like it is now.

Thrilled/nervous to be taking over as Chair of BrANCH (
@branchuk.bsky.social

I was lucky enough to work in the Department of American Studies at Nottingham for a year, and as Emily says, it is a dynamic and welcoming community providing students with a really important alternative to a history degree. Please sign this!
