I have a couple quibbles - Martins was by and large the best NYCFC defender, and frankly should be rated as one of the best in the league. Second, I’m largely ok with losing Haak at the price point because he was coming off his best year ever, and still was more “good guy to have” vs “MLS Best XI”

yeah this makes a lot of sense kind of a lot hinges on “yeah sure if you’re good we’ll pay you, a centerback, 7 figures” but on the other hand, when you’re drowning in offers this that and which way, why not? that being said, hard not to imagine a way for NYCFC if the well was not a bit bitter

I've seen some confusion over Justin Haak accepting a 1-year FA deal from the Galaxy instead of taking a longer, guaranteed deal from NYCFC. And unfortunately you kind of need to be an MLS CBA sicko to understand all the math at play here. Gonna try to break it down for you 1/x

with the 57th pick, NYCFC goes from small young offense in the first round to big veteran defense in the second NYC take Kevin Pierre from Ga. Southern, 6'1" CDM with elite aerial numbers BIG position of need with Perea out for foreseeable future and Haak potentially on his way out

With the 27th pick, NYCFC takes Ransford Gyan. Gyan is probably the most fun player available, though there are a number of questions about how his frame translates to the next level. At the same time, he can be the understudy of one of the best little guys in MLS history.

I guess the real question is when are they going to decide to not slow play their season? New stadium has me hopeful, but the team needs to show actions that back up the "we want to compete for trophies" talk.
