I'm doing a blender physics animation tutorial and I'm faced with the realization that my PC is old. Baking an animation takes me roughly 100 times as long as what the guy in the video says is normal. x_x

I wonder how feasible it would be commission a photographer in another country to visit a museum to take a bunch of photos of one specific exhibit. It definitely seems cheaper than booking a flight to do it myself. xP

What software is everyone using for digital art nowadays? I haven't looked into it much since the days the choice was between GIMP, Photoshop and PaintTool SAI.

I started working on a 3D environment for character references and ended up spending a day making a very fancy turn table for the scene.

I wonder, what are the chances for a zoo to have the CT of a hyena saved and then be willing to share them with some stranger emailing them to make a 3D model for a hobby project?

Thanks to the help of @zyonji.bsky.social, I managed to sit down and start a striped hyena skull today c: Ran a bit out of steam, so going to try and tidy it up a bit tomorrow! Got here primarily by using the move/snake hook and clay buildup, dynamesh, IMM spheres, and a wee bit of zmodeller

I got stuck with 3D modelling again, so I decided to try a tough problem from the ground up to see if I can figure out a good process from it. First I spent a day collecting references for my project, a hyena skull. A mix of photos, 3D scans and MRTs. Based on that, my first low poly model.

I'm without power for an hour. Reply with the favorite art made for you, to help me pass the time with something nice!

I decided to make a quick procedural feather as a distraction from not getting anywhere with the hair and even that bothers me now. There's something about working in 3D I can't get quite right. There is a disconnect between three conceptual forces all operating at once.

I hit a bit of a wall trying to translate the way I stylize hair into 3D, so I thought I'd break it down here to help myself figure it out. Right now I'm trying to make the white hair inside of the tail. I made it to look like the usual hair of my hyena.

Procedural generation of parts like eyelashes allows for some very silly animations. xP

I also made fully procedural eyeballs! I start by creating cylinder mapping the vertex height to a ring index. The vertex in the center of the top and bottom get a separate index each. Next I calculate the crease index; the index of the ring closest to the cornea edge.

A month ago, I decided I want to recreate the character design from my comic in 3D, because I had some specific ideas for the design that would only show in an animation. I didn't know how to make it, but I was determined to figure it out. Here's how it went:

A little while ago, I saw a transformation sequence when browsing art and it looked like a lot of fun! So I decided trying to make my own. This is the first time I drew a comic too! It was a fun challenge with a lot of new things to learn and I'm happy to have finally made one! :D
