They introduced him with his military record and then he got on stage and yelled a bunch. It was so patriarchal and felt so insensitive given the current state of US facism and US-backed genocide in the world that I couldn’t sit thru it.

Still thinking about the conference i spoke at last week where their idea of "leadership", "diversity", and "world" was praying to Jesus, having absolutely no class analysis, and acting like disability or gender diversity didn't even exist. Here's the four things the experience reinforced for me:

This idea that if you do work that you love, you'll never feel tired or whatever is rooted in the capitalist (and Puritan) myth that work is a reflection of value & meaning in our lives. It's also used to exploit / undermine folks who do work they love. "Why should I pay you if you love doing it?"
