The organising team are already excitedly making draft plans for next year’s Lovelace Colloquium (the 19th!) while on their journey home. It’ll be at Bath University, 9-10 April 2026 and we’re looking forward to it.

It's time for the prizewinners megathread!

In the afternoon we had a great talk from Ilyena Hirskyj-Douglas about using technology to enable animals to communicate remotely (her dog can video call her, and parrots can call other parrots).

Carole Rennie Logan was our third and final speaker of the morning session. She described her progress from graduate to community organiser and conference speaker.

Our next speaker was Bala Tirumalasetti from our Gold Sponsor Ocado Technology. Bala spoke about improving processes at Ocado, and having the right structures and frameworks to do that.

"All those people who look like they've got it sorted? They don't." We are all still inventing ourselves. Great start to the keynote from Sharon Moore.

Finally pinned down some time to reflect and then write a PFHEA application. So very happy to receive my official @advancehe.bsky.social certificate today.

It's that time of year when we spend our afternoons off making Ada Lovelace pronoun badges in advance of the colloquium. Spoiler alert: most of them are she/her (we have some they/them for nb participants, obviously, and some he/him for helpers and friends).

We've entered a phase of the conference organisation where externally, it probably looks like we're being quiet. Behind the scenes we are filtering and reading 265 student abstracts, answering queries about rules and regulations, travel and accommodation, and engaging with supporters and sponsors.

Today, I emailed all submitters to the Lovelace (266, once we'd taken out doubles and test posts). Now the team gets down to reviewing and feedback. Our aim is to release decisions before the end of Feb!

Due to a hiccup in my electronic world I didn't send student acknowledgement emails yesterday. I am planning to get them out today even if it means learning how to mail merge in outlook😅

Submissions closed just after midnight last night and we have 271 - some of these are not real (I'm filtering now) but that's a record. I hope to get back to everyone today, sometime!

It's the deadline day and now we have abstracts from 50 different unis. We will accept abstracts submitted up until midnight.

It's just gone 1pm on the day before the deadline, and we've just had our 100th submission. Usually our submission numbers double on the last day. Students are not renowned for handing things in early...
