I love itch, I really do. Part of its charm is that it was built as a dev-first platform and organically grew into a store. Steam was always a store; that's their business. So while itch has the better dev experience, Steam had the better player experience. >>>

In 2022 I played both Persona 5 and Disco Elysium. I then made a tiny sandbox combining the two. This silly experiment did the rounds around the gamedevspace. While I'm not going to make a CRPG any time soon, the drum-dialogue system goes HARD and I'm still using it today

An atmospheric horrifying job simulator and also bodyhorror mood piece. It's very subdued and dreadful, in that horror sense of the word, while being very tactile and immersive. Good stuff.
