This is all about the media attention Carney is getting over his Davos speech. Trump doesn't care about the speech, or the trade deal with China. However, he absolutely can't stand the global, and particularly the US, media talking about Carney's speech and ignoring his rambling nonsense.

It is also a widely held view among uninformed and misinformed Americans, and has been for decades. There are a lot of Americans who are completely unaware that any US allies fought in Afghanistan. There are also a lot of Americans who are unaware that there were any troops other than US on D-Day.

This is the source of the separatist movement in Alberta. It is being driven by the US. There are absolutely a small number of people who want to separatists in AB, but they are being driven by US interests; political actors, social media companies, and bot networks.

Ultimately, secession is a political matter not a legal matter. Relying on legal, procedural processes to block a secession movement is an invitation for the secessionists to choose violence to create the political reality that they are denied through legal means.

American members of congress telling Europeans to calm down because Trumps threats to Greenland will never be carried out is ass backwards. They need to be telling Trump to calm down because they are never going to let it happen.

The choice is impeachment and removal or calamity for the United States. I don't see how anybody watching Trump's speech in Davos can draw any other conclusion. He's a senile madman.

This is true. It is also true that Canada ALMOST has a functional veto over US military actions against Greenland. It is very difficult for the US to conduct military actions against GL without using CA airspace, NORAD assets, and/or CA allowing EU naval forces to use CA ports. A short thread.

Trump doesn't want Greenland for any US security interests. He wants Greenland because he thinks he can make money for himself by auctioning off the mineral rights in Greenland.

The irony in this is that Americans can in one breath talk about the dysfunctional system in Washington and in the next breath talk about how they are the most democratic nation in the world and the "beacon on the hill" to all other nations.

8-8 Americans have a distorted political self-image. They believe they have strong checks-and-balances - they don't. They think they're prone to rebel against authority - obedience is the norm. Domestic politics is played as if harmful foreign actors had no vote - by hook and by crook, they do.

This is why Trump is looking for forward sources of revenue that he can control without Congressional oversight or interference. Venezuelan oil or Greenland mineral concessions paid into foreign bank accounts under his control aren't necessarily about corruption.
