Berserk is one of my favorite stories ever told, yes, there is a level of extreme violence, yes there's an infamous rape scene, but it's not for no reason, it becomes a huge part of the narrative. The meta of Berserk and its continuation, mirroring the story itself, has made me bawl in public twice.

@jedmackay.bsky.social don't miss, this issue was awesome! A couple pages of dialogue set up the internal conflicts inside the X-Men, a justifiable reason for them, AND showed how they were all part of the machinations of the current adversary. Also Magik/Juggernaut's frenemy situation is so good.

It's true. And such a mental hurdle to getting into reading comics, it's counter intuitive to try to go into a story without all the information. It stopped me for literally decades. It's so much fun once you're in, but it's hard to make peace with "Not everything that happens matters all the time."

I'm not sure I've posted about @jefflemire171.bsky.social's Minor Arcana, but it's consistently one of my comics every month. There's an overarching supernatural plot slowly, subtly unravelling in the background, but front and centre are the characters and their complicated relationships.Such a gem!

Magical Sister Lulu and Lili looks so adorable that I'm going to give it a look just because. For some reason reminds me of Flip Flappers, which was a short and bizarre magical girl show that I should go back and finish.

Ferocious by Luke Piotrowski, @xarkadyx.bsky.social, Paolo Raiteri and Carlos Mangual wrapped up this week. On the surface, loud and violent, but it's so subtly layered. It's a story of tragedy on both sides, though you have to read between the lines to see it. An excellent under the radar gem!

I love characters which are things that should not, yet do, have faces. And I can trace it directly back to that evil book in the Care Bears movie.

I don't know how to word this in a way that doesn't come off as a back handed compliment, which it totally isn't meant to be, but give it until issue 2 as well. Issue 1 sets up the board, issue 2 is where it really took shape for me and elements of what's going on become way clearer. I'm so in now.

Paul Jenkins' Sentry#1 is my first real run in outside of Thunderbolts, and word of mouth for years that he's very scary. It's really good! You don't need to know anything, it gives you all you need to feel the horrible claustrophobic feeling of things going wrong and quickly pressing in.

The best anime I've seen in years was French, and I think that's because it was heavily inspired by things that anime doesn't do anymore. Watch Mars Express if you liked Ghost in the Shell, or any number of other animations for adults in the 90s. Superb.

I have mistyped the title of the Transformers comic for this week's episode, "Brainstorm" as "Brianstorm" enough times that I think something might be wrong with my Brian. And that a character called Brian Storm who always has good ideas in meetings would be funny.

12,000 miles in 8 days is 1,500 miles per day. Assuming Bomber Bill was driving 20 hours straight each day he would have to maintain 75mph. Result: Bomber Bill was cranked out of his ground when he met Huffer.

I have read Marvel’s Transformers #10 COUNTLESS times since childhood, but talking through it suggested a lot of interesting insights I never would have thought about. Not bad for a comic about toy robots!
