There are few left —- and so long had he wanted to win. And now it was near. Defeat —- at the hands of something so demonic, like the dragon. That he cannot feel more than the rush of violence. The idea of. .winning. Or something like it, pulsated in his muscles.

The sword is caught —- its size now large enough to rival that of his own Dawn Breaker. It is an odd feeling, to hold another’s weapons when you know your own as if it were your child. But still, he is a soldier, a commander —- a weapon is still one no matter whose it is.

A fist comes launching in, it’s strike true to his gut —- a small instance of being unprepared. But it takes no time at all for him to readjust. Knox shifts his weight, driving his larger shoulder into the chest of his attacker —- his hand then reaches, clamping to the others wrist.

The kingdom of Saransay once boasted so many incredible sights. It was so rich in history, a bastion against dozens of wars throughout time, home to many famous rulers, artists, conquerers... The conquered sometimes fled there. They'd argue that hiding in the belly of the beast was the safest bet.

And what did he use to be? Protector? Fighter? Commander? That felt like a lifetime ago. Before when things were simple —- and the world recognized him for what he was. Now? Now it could give less than a damn.

It seems to find me, Empress.

He had left Sybella moments ago —- needing a moment to clear his mind. To make peace with the demons that clouded his heart, to put an end to the visions of his dead comrades.

The worn nub of their quill scritch-scratched against the small leather-bound journal that rested on their thigh, the last of their current well of ink fading more and more to an ashen gray as sentences—and their patience—wore thin. 𝘔𝘺 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺'𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘴.

Wandering —- the cloak he wore covering over the cracked blue and silver armor beneath. Only flashes of the golden ape skull on the shoulder plate that split in half.

There was pain in him, his army gone. Friends and family gone to the dragon —- that sought no victory other than to push them to the dirty. He sat across from her in the tavern, although it was wild with noise. The two were quiet. “You must eat, Empress.”
