Last night, the OPL Board approved my application to name the meeting room in the Alta Vista Library after Allan Higdon, a life-long community leader, former Mayor of Ottawa, former City Councillor for Alta Vista, former OPL Trustee.

In speaking in favour of this recommendation tonight, I acknowledged the gaps in OPL service that exist in our urban ward, currently with no library branches, and repeated my call for additional programming and services in Carlington, a community that must have OPL in it.

This evening, OPL Board has voted to approve the Facilities Master Plan, an extensive roadmap for new library branches and maintenance in current buildings over 20 years. The Old Hunt Club community in River Ward has been identified for a new (leased) site, within five years.

Every Budget cycle I have to beg, borrow and steal to get more resources just to renew and repair aged sidewalks. An unnecessary battle to maintain what we already have. If City Council says active transportation is a priority, then it must be funded as such.
