Local people must have a say in how their council tax payments are being spent; to do otherwise would be an affront to democracy itself. Labour’s decision to offer councils the chance to cancel local elections is disgraceful, undermining the legitimacy of their leadership.

I love local history 💚 As a member of the County Advisory Group on Archives and Local Studies, I recently had a fantastic time touring the Cambridgeshire Collection at Cambridge Central Library 📚

Before 2026 begins, let me cover a few things that happened towards the end of 2025! First, I recently went to an interesting Housing Advisory Board meeting, where I spoke about how we need to improve our processes to fix common issues in our council homes quicker 🏡

I always enjoy the quiet period between Christmas and the new year, as it gives me the opportunity to work on Local Highway Improvement applications while relaxing with a book 💚 I got some fantastic new stuff for Christmas, including Nietzsche’s Political Economy 📚

Yesterday was AMAZING 🎄 We raised nearly £3000 for an amazing organisation while also providing lots of people a warm and comfortable place to go on Christmas Day ❤️ I am absolutely shattered 😅 Today, I’ll be getting some rest while catching up on a few emails…

The other week, I enjoyed going to @plurabellebooks.com’s Christmas fundraiser for the local Greens 🎄 While I was there, I picked up some great stuff, including this book with a beautiful cover, a reproduction of a seventeenth-century engraving depicting King’s College 📚

At our recent membership meeting, I got to speak about all of the great work that the Green county councillors are doing 💚 Darren and I will be opening up The Edge Café on Christmas Day to raise money to support their work helping people recovering from substance addiction.

Recently, Labour announced that they are giving councils across the country the opportunity to cancel next year’s local elections 🗳️ They’re terrified of the public holding them to account and hoping to cling onto power any way they can, showing contempt for regular people!

You may have noticed that New Shire Hall is looking very Christmassy at the moment! I was recently there for Children and Young People Committee, where I asked about the impact a lack of schools for children with special educational needs was having on kids around the county.

Across Cambridge, the Greens are surging in popularity 📈 I just had a fantastic day out campaigning in both Petersfield and Castle 💚

I sadly wasn’t able to make it over to Alconbury for Strategy, Resources and Performance Committee yesterday due to the disgraceful state of Cambridgeshire’s bus services 🚌 I am very disappointed that I wasn’t there! This morning, I have been planning our budget amendment 💚

Labour lack the self-reflection needed to take responsibility for their own actions. Their plan for local government reorganisation risks losing the Guildhall as the heart of local democracy in Cambridge, yet our Labour council will blame everybody for this but themselves 🤣🤣🤣

I recently called out Paul Bristow, our Conservative mayor, at full council for criticising Cambridge Community Kitchen, a group that provides free meals to residents across the city - it must be embarrassing that the community are cleaning up the mess he helped cause as MP 🤣🤣

Wherever you are across the county, your community needs your support! This Christmas, Darren, Naomi, and I will be opening The Edge Café on Christmas Day to help them raise money, as they do amazing work supporting those recovering from substance addiction ❤️

EVERYBODY needs to be involved in solving society’s problems 💚 The division of labour endemic to industrial capitalism has created a world where people are made to abdicate responsibility for thinking about politics to a designated political class so that they have time to work!

A lot of people expect democracy to be easy, but that’s far from the case. Freedom means that you have to make tough choices, which is always going to be hard work! It’s past midnight, but I expect to be up for at least a few more hours reading through the budget 😴 Photo: 😺

The core of democracy is participation: the reason it’s great is because it empowers all people to get involved ✊ It was nice seeing lots of campaigners out in Petersfield this evening, as we all need to exercise the democratic freedoms that we have 💚

Young politicians don’t have it easy; many of us have had to deal with condescension and abuse, as lots of people are intimidated by the fresh perspective we’re bringing to politics 🎾 We must all work to empower the next generation of councillors ✊

Yesterday, I had an amazing time at the @londonygs.bsky.social AGM with @natehiggins.bsky.social and Elfrede, where we were helping to train up a new generation of politicians and campaigners 💚

While I’m over in London for the @londonygs.bsky.social AGM, I’ve been out in Hackney campaigning for some of the area’s FANTASTIC Green candidates 💚 If you’re in the city today, make sure you come along to the big meeting; I’m helping to run a workshop on how to be a great councillor!

Last night’s meeting had to be temporarily stopped after it was interrupted by @acorncambridge.bsky.social protesting the council’s use of bailiffs in its collection of council tax arrears. I’ve also complained in the past about how our Labour council uses bailiffs to bully vulnerable residents!

The Greens are WINNING in Cambridge 💚 I had a fantastic time at this weekend’s training, where we learned what we need to know to get some real change in our city!

Cambridgeshire is politically stagnant; it’s just the same old parties bringing the same old ideas to the table. Kathryn and I are over in Staffordshire to learn from people like @elliechowns.bsky.social about what it takes to push for real change in Parliament 💚

Meet Waffle ❤️ I recently adopted him from Woodgreens, as all animals deserve a loving home 🥰 It’s been great having him with me while I’m preparing for a bunch of interesting meetings that are coming up!

Just before this year’s May elections, my beloved gerbil Tails passed away ❤️ I didn’t mention it at the time because I wanted to keep spirits up during the campaign, but Tails was an absolute champ that kept me company while sorting out casework. Now I have to do casework alone!
