Heading off to University of Queensland in Brisbane this week to help kick off a 3-year ARC-funded project on the causes & consequences of cognitive offloading in children. It's hosted at UoQ, & also involves collaborations with colleagues at Leeds (@amandawaterman.bsky.social), UCL, and Melbourne.

Heading to the 2025 Working Memory Discussion Meeting at beautiful Parcevall Hall today. Looking forward to three days of talks, chats, walks to the pub, and hopefully not too much rain.

Watching the Sparklehorse documentary, I’d forgotten how much brilliant, beautiful music they made. Those first 3 albums are something else. Also a bit surprised to find I have the same favourite song of theirs (Sea of Teeth) as the tabloid TV presenter Matthew Wright. Unexpected.

The latest (September 2024) issue of JARMAC by @officialsarmac.bsky.social has a special section on "applying cognitive science to improve learning" (see the list of articles below). They all seem really interesting, so check them out if you're interested in this topic!

The new special issue in QJEP, celebrating 50 years of the Baddeley & Hitch (1974) piece that has proved a foundation stone for working memory research. A great collection of articles capturing some of the latest developments in the field (also including 3 of our own...). Many thanks to the Eds!
