There’s been some chatter about the anti-transit scheme and whether or not they lost funding. Here’s what’s going on.

That’s right. For nearly 20 years there was a one seat ride from Queens to Queens. The journey time from Far Rockaway to Jackson Heights? About an hour and a half.

Yesterday, @nypirg.bsky.social students at Queens College joined community advocates to call on the city’s leaders and the MTA to advance the QueensLink project. The rally highlighted the release of a student-led report and over 1,500 petition signatures from students to the NYC Mayor.

QueensLink was inspired by a variety of rails & trails projects. So we’re starting a new series, looking at projects from around the world that inspired us and why! First up, the Camden Highline! Unlike its Manhattan counterpart, the Highline is a proposed linear park on an active railroad viaduct.

The Rockaway Round-Robin was a peculiar service that operated for several stints between the late 60s and the early 90s. The route made use of all three sections of the Hammels Wye, the triangular junction where the two branches of the Rockaway Line diverge and a single track connects the two.

Today, we released an RFP for an in-depth economic analysis of our subway expansion vision for Queens. The study aims to not only quantify the project’s benefits but also show just how much the region stands to lose if the city chooses not to allow transit on the Rockaway Beach Branch right-of-way.

After being sold to the city in 1952, the southern half of the Rockaway Beach Branch was converted to the New York City Subway system and opened on this day June 28th, 1956! It remains the only LIRR trackage ever converted to the network. That is, until we #buildtheQueensLink!
