The 35th annual Pender Harbour CBC (Christmas Bird Count) will take place all day on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025. The backup date is the following day, Thursday. The Christmas Bird Count is a one-day census of all birds wintering in the Pender Harbour area, specifically within a 24-km radius.

On this Giving Tuesday, we’re grateful for the community that continues to step outside, pay attention, and connect with this place we call home. Whether it’s walking a forest trail, watching the sun set on the solstice, counting birds, or simply noticing the changing of the season.

It’s almost Christmas Bird Count season! 🎄🕊️ Every winter between December 14 and January 5, thousands of volunteers across North America head outdoors to help track winter bird populations in their local communities. The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is the longest-running citizen science project.

Join us for the next round of forage fish sampling with Dianne Sanford and Friends of Forage Fish! Forage fish, such as surf smelt and Pacific sand lance, play a crucial role in the marine food web. Our citizen science project helps monitor these important species to ensure the health of our coast.

Snow-capped mountains are back on the horizon in Átl’ḵa7tsem/Howe Sound; a reminder that winter precipitation is a lifeline for our coastal ecosystems. Snowpack acts as a natural reservoir, slowly releasing freshwater into our streams and estuaries as it melts.
