Jeff Strand’s books are also a good choice for high schoolers (or upper middle) who used to read Wimpy Kid. Funny, short, good covers (ours are paperback) but we need more like these!

This is a book I try to hand to former Wimpy Kid lovers that are in high school. It’s a road trip book with dark humor, a great premise and excellent writing. Sometimes they check it out, sometimes not. Fantastic book though!

Serious question: Where in the YA section do we send these millions of boys who loved reading (or at least grudgingly read) Diary of a Wimpy Kid in middle school?? They want humor, and their sense of humor is still largely juvenile, but they are now in high school.

If you look closely into our book dropbox, you can see Friend #1. This was last week. Friend #2 was today, and he was not as lucky, but I will spare you the picture of him flattened between two books like a cartoon Jerry 😵 I love fall.

On the last day of a conference, caffeine is always my best friend.

I just stopped halfway through an “unputdownable romance.” Don’t believe every blurb.

How important are trusted book recs to kids? I loved this book and rec’d it to everyone last year. It checked out so much, it was loved to death and this is a replacement copy. Only 1 other library in the U.P. even has a copy and theirs has only 2 lifetime checkouts. Find books for kids to love!

This was my yesterday. So far, today is not todaying yet.

One of my goals in retirement is to read more fiction. To this end, I bought an ebook reader that will allow me to download books from the local library for free, without even having to go to the library if I don't want to. What a world we live in that such a thing is possible!

The guy on the left hired me for my current job. I am so grateful to him for giving me my dream job, and I so admire his dedication to libraries. He’s one of the good ones!

I took the Bushel & Peck Acquired! workshop this weekend and it was 100% worth the time and money. I woke up this morning with ideas that will fix TWO manuscripts I have been working on for YEARS. YEARS! *happy dancing*

16% of adults read for pleasure on any given day. That’s…..so low. And if kids model their behavior on the adults in their lives, no wonder kids don’t read anymore.
