Is there anything more depressing than fighting for funding for a library? Because that’s what I’m doing this week. And it’s depressing. Libraries MATTER!!!

Sunday afternoon matinee. I approve of the theme.

I was in college during Late Night. Letterman’s irreverence was always brilliant. This brings tears to my eyes 😂 “Good night and good luck, motherfuckers.”

I just added two books that I discovered here on Bluesky to my next Ingram order. The recommendations here are thoughtful and helpful. On x (which I deleted when it became x), they used to feel like appeals by used car salesmen.

Why haven’t more publishers, editors, and agents spoken out about the Barnett situation? He just called almost ALL of their products crud. They are the gatekeepers, the ones ultimately responsible for books that kids read, yet authors are the ones defending their own work.

This book is being pitched as “perfect for former fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and I’m pre-ordering immediately. This just became my most anticipated book of 2026 👀

My advice for reading slumps is to read outside your usual genres. I read a lot of everything, so hard to take my own advice. BUT, don’t think I’ve ever read adult nonfiction SPORTS, so let’s gooooooo

Reading slump. Started four books and put them all down. Ugh.

Netflix calls it a “price update.” How are we letting this become our world? It’s an increase, Netflix. An INCREASE.

The comments. Oh, the comments 😅 And I say this as I look around my house and admire my rapidly multiplying plants.

I love our students!

If I had to guess, I’d say 75-80% of these books (the juvenile section) have a 12-year-old main characlter. It is a one-size-fits-all age for publishing, but not for actual kids. We need more #youngteenlit

I saw this over on Instagram and it looks and sounds delightful! AND the mc is an eighth-grader, so bordering on #youngteenlit. Fantastic! Bringing this one in for sure.

They just don’t get it.

Book censorship affects everyone indirectly.

I’m so confused.

This is a good deep-dive into the current state of YA books. Not many of my students are even into romantasy. They want realistic teenager romance that’s less spicy, without cringey covers- getting so hard to find for our collection.

A former student stopped by to say hi and thank me for being a safe space for her when she was in school. She wanted to tell me she is on hormones now and legally changing her name. She brought me a macaroon. Kindness is so simple. We hope we help. It’s nice to find out when we do.

Easter is funny with adult kids. They still expect the baskets and egg hunt (umm, no, and okayyyy because the hunt is competitive and entertaining for me) but they also want help with their taxes 😅

Just finished this and it was moving and thought-provoking. I enjoyed it immensely! Have already book-talked it to a patron, who checked it out, so digital pic instead of real pic.

Retaining the joyfulness of writing can be one of the hardest parts of being a writer. I’m glad he found it again!
