2024 is the first year the annual global average temperature exceeded 1.5°C. While this doesn’t mean the Paris Agreement’s limit has been breached (the 1.5°C limit is assessed over 20-30 years, not a single year) it is an urgent warning to rapidly reduce fossil fuel emissions.
