Well, it's time for me to start a new project. Last night, while working on my _other_ project, I realized I needed a tool for it to test some things out. Fingers crossed I can get it done in 3-4 days.

Just sent my 13th weekly product update to my customers for sendbroadcast.net. It's become a habit now that every Sunday night, I look at my changelog and summarize what I've updated/improved/fixed and fire off an update to my customers.

Been reading the book, The Psychology of Money. An idea in there is that it's oftentimes hard to know how much of a result is attributable to luck or skill. As a result, this makes it hard to extrapolate the lessons from someone else's outcome to apply to your own situation.

Working on sendbroadcast.net, I am constantly reminded how glad I am to have spent the time writing unit tests. At the start of any side project, it's so easy to just code. But as complexity increases, tests are what gives me the confidence to ship.

Almost 1 release per day this week. I think I'm going to take Sunday easy.

Sometimes customers will ask questions like “How is your product different from __?” And sometimes there’s really no straightforward answer.

Why start side projects even when you have a main one? The reason is that side projects give you a chance to try out new tech. It’s an excuse to try and test something new. Sometimes techniques or tech from a side project is so useful, you can bring that knowledge back into your main project.

Building a business that can get acquired should be a goal. Even if you don’t want to get acquired. Think about it: you want your business to become valuable enough that someone wants to buy it. To have processes that it can run without you. Those should be the goal anyway, right?

So Monday to Tuesday, I was fixing a bug. Specifically it was to handle auto saving in a text editor. Initial implementation took me something like 45 mins. But edge cases cropped up. Technically things weren’t hard, but the logic took 2 days to think through. And that’s dev work for ya, folks.

It's that time of the week(end) again. Just released v0.6.0 of sendbroadcast.net with a whole bunch of updates. And sent the 9th consecutive email to my customers detailing all the work that was done this past week. Tomorrow: Time to update the docs (with more detailed instructions, screenshots)

Damn, I love how the house is quiet and I can finally have some time to do some coding. Trying to get the bulk of work done on handling Amazon SES webhooks for @sendbroadcast.com so the app can be notified of deliveries/bounces/complaints/opens & clicks, etc.

I can totally see Broadcast morphing into not only being a tool for email automation and marketing, but into a newsletter management tool with RSS feeds with the option to publish to a website to show back issues.

After pushing out some bug fixes that took the better part of the afternoon, my brain just doesn't want to code anymore. This sucks, because I want to code. C'mon brain.

The web is the best platform. Having been part of app stores and ecosystems in the past, the relationship between a developer and the upstream partner almost always end poorly. Hence, why it ends at all. Ultimately, business interests diverge.

Released v0.5.0 for sendbroadcast.net with new feature for error reporting during application crashes. Error reports will now be sent back to us (when you click send on the error page), providing us with telemetry to help diagnose and fix the problem.

One of the challenges of building a self-hosted application is that it's hard to get error reports. Today, I'm working on a way for sendbroadcast.com customers to more easily report errors and send telemetry when issues happen.

Building in public... Saturday evening edition. Creating the feature to rate limit outbound emails for sendbroadcast.com. Added a nice little UI here to let users know that their list might require multiple email servers, especially if they set a rate limit too low.
