We rounded up fieldwork for 2025 with #BIOCOMP forest inventory at our Ankasa field site in Ghana. Of course, we didn't leave without a splash in River Ankasa and a spontaneous stop at the beach. 😀🌴 It's been a remarkable year for my group. @biocomp-erc.bsky.social @shamikroy.bsky.social

We are looking forward to seeing many participants in the BE20 conference, marking the twentieth anniversary of the @bexplo.bsky.social Biodiversity Exploratories, which have a special place in our hearts and research group. Hope to see you in June '26!

Do we want to age? The answer might be overwhelmingly NO. The question is, what are we doing about it? Prof. Ramakrishnan's public talk at @tudresden.bsky.social on ageing attempted to answer why and how humans age and how we can slow down ageing.

This year, we started a new experiment as part of BIOCOMP studying interactions between insects and fungi in deadwood, especially vectoring, and their effects on decomposition. The first site in Germany has been set up, and some model insect species have moved into their new homes.

Uncertainty or stochasticity is the norm in fieldwork. Everything can be planned, but nature has its own way. Our natural forest site in Germany was destroyed by a wild boar attack last January. However, thanks to the local foresters, we could replace it quickly, now well protected. #BIOCOMP ISA
