Great end of summer bike riding out of Berlin today.

A great conclusion to the ride today. After a bit of wading in sand, we got the majority of the day on a not busy service road for the train. After a large steep hill into Nairobi we got a final chaotic ride through traffic on a dual carriageway to complete the loop.

A slog in the morning, though interesting to see kfc and a more built up narok than any city yet on this trip. Then a payoff in the afternoon with a big downhill ride to suswa.

A day of skynet, corn, empty gas stations, and open road

Started the day with a big climb out of kisii. The road quality degraded a bit in the middle of the ride, but never felt too bad. Cooler temperatures and much of the climbing behind us now.

Had a hilly day from the Kenyan border to Kisii 90 km north. Easy to stay distracted from the work by the regularity of villages we got to pass through.

Back on the bike today, and back to Kenya. A long day but full of adventure with a local ferry, 20km of dirt roads, and a lot of curious faces.

Had a great few days exploring the Serengeti and seeing the great GNU migration. Left the park today for lake Victoria.

A break from biking today as we entered the Serengeti. Saw all the charismatic mega-fauna and really impressed by the place.

A transition day today. A short bike ride to the edge of the national park, and then exploration of the area. There was a huge bi-weekly market at the neighboring town.

I’ve had a great first couple days biking in Tanzania. Left Arusha this morning after some great Indian food, for a day on the Savana as we head towards the Serengeti.

Setting off this morning from Nairobi for a couple weeks of bicycling in Kenya and Tanzania.

Sad to be missing the atomosphere conference in seattle this weekend. It looks to be an important milestone for the community beyond the direct bluesky team to shape how to evolve the protocol beyond public posts.

Finally made my way back to China after several years away. Lots that feels the same, and immediately overwhelming scale of things in the lead up to the new year.

The last few years have gone by fast! I’m now a permanent resident of Germany 🇩🇪 Looking ahead at a wild 2025, I’m feeling grateful to everyone who has helped me build a life in Berlin, and to those who have remained part of my life around the world!

Ate really well over the last week in France. Really enjoyed many of the local specialties - from porcini fondue in the alps to Algerian mezze in Valence

Wandered around Marseille today. Really interesting city with a vibrant chaos that co-exists with a lot of history. A nice end to the 675km bike tour from Geneva (which could not be a more different city)

A long final day to the Mediterranean and into Marseille. More costal hills than all the way down the Rhône from Geneva! 🚲

Biking today to Arles through Avignon. Pretty ruins and getting close to the coast.

Another full bike day. This time down the Rhône from valence. Fairly humid with threatening rain but nothing that made the ride uncomfortable.

Finished up the Isère today, and rejoined the Rhône at Valence

A short day out to Voiron today to see the Chartreuse museum. They moved production a couple years ago closer to the monastery, and converted the old facility into a museum.

The bike route today continued from Aix-Les-bains to Grenoble. Followed the Isère river much of the way through walnut and hazelnut orchards.

Biked today from Geneva to Aix-les-bains on the shores of lake bourget. A gentle route mostly along the Rhône.

Visiting Geneva for the first time. It’s a pretty place!
