Starting to hear these debates in KC. Kids are taking @kcstreetcar.org to school, but hearing stories of parents who can't get comfortable with the idea. If I were a parent, my kid driving would be my top fear — the thing overwhelmingly most likely to kill them. We're just so used to it, though.

Also, it is the entrance closest to the streetcar stop without forcing people to walk around to the other side when they are rushing to testify for some important issue that will inevitably be held anyway because overcoming 4 NIMBYs just requires too much courage. Hypothetically. :)

This is also a reason to keep investing in the core of the city instead of dribbling projects around the city because "my district hasn't seen a shiny thing." Investment in the core pays the city back.

The next time you're evaluating a city council candidate, pay attention to how they treat staff in public meetings. These are public servants with domain expertise that have dedicated their lives to making their cities better and they are so often dismissed or treated with contempt.

One thing I feel ought to be discussed more is the fact that basically all rural and suburban places in the US are subsidized by cities. They resent cities. They insult cities. They elect politicians who abuse cities. But none of them could survive without cities.

Just ONE of the F-15 jets that were destroyed in Kuwait cost the same amount as the entire KC Streetcar downtown starter line project. Streetcars, rails, construction jobs, maintenance facility, wires... all of it. Don't let them tell you we can't afford high quality modern transit.

That @amtrak.com delays are completely routine and expected is entirely a policy failure. This train is quite busy today, so 100s of people lose part of their day because we won't force freight railroads to follow the law. We want this to be an attractive option! We could be so much better.

Our money is our most powerful voice. Eventually, the market corrects, but imagine what a difference we could make if we just chose the even marginally more agreeable provider without even having to give up anything. Buy local, and then buy least worst.
