My letter to the Standard about how many politicians and right-wingers, including white supremacists, are using recent violent crimes to spread misinformation and grab more power through getting "tough" on crime. They aren't talking about what's proven to work though - getting "smart" not "tough."

"Tough on Crime" bail cuts #Niagara politician push, from fear & misinformation whipped up by white supremacists (and others), will make it worse for Black & Indigenous disproportionately denied bail. Indigenous women don't report abuse because they'll be arrested too, stuck in jail denied bail.

Many #Niagara elected officials confirming themselves as MAGA or MAGA-adjacent in praising Kirk and his message ("the word of God") when his message was clearly white supremacist, misogynist, transphobic, anti-2SLGBTQQIA+. This isn't just denouncing violence but is promoting or whitewashing hate.

There is a campaign of hate against #Niagara Region Councillor Haley Bateman. There is nothing wrong with what she said in distancing herself from public sympathy for an openly hateful person. Haley stands with so many when elected officials abandon or ignore us. We stand with Haley against hate.
