Happy St Andrew’s Day! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Our national day is a reminder of how Scotland’s heritage can bring people together. At Crookston Castle we see that every week, as the community comes together to share and celebrate our shared connections, history and future.

To celebrate #BookWeekScotland children’s author Marion Husband visited the Castle for a wonderful storytelling session with the wee ones from nearby Lyoncross Nursery. It was a lovely day filled with imagination and adventure. 📚 @scottishbooktrust.bsky.social

Our volunteers enjoyed a memorable evening as we picked up another award! This one celebrating our partnership with VSC & artist Hannah Brackston hosting schools during GlasgowDODFestival. A lovely recognition of the creativity, teamwork and community spirit that makes Crookston Castle so special.

Thrilled to be regional winners of the Community Champions Awards 🎉 As a small, volunteer-led group, this means so much. In just our first full year, we’ve hosted events, school visits and heritage projects that have helped reconnect people with one of Glasgow’s most historic landmarks.

We had a brilliant time at the Collection Medieval Day! Our stall was busy all day helping visitors design their very own coats of arms, taking inspiration from the incredible art and armour on display in the museum.

The grant we received from the Castle Studies Trust has opened up so many opportunities for our community—from new research and volunteers to schools events. We’d highly recommend other groups apply, it’s a fantastic way to unlock fresh discoveries and bring people closer to their heritage.

Yesterday we talked about the American base 'Camp Crookston' here is Clarence “Code” Gomberg who served with the 343rd Medical Battalion talking about life in the camp in a a short clip from the US National World War Two Museum.

The area around the Castle was known as Camp Crookston, a US Army base. It housed ordnance units, the 50th General Hospital & the 2nd Evacuation Hospital. So it’s likely the Castle quietly witnessed intense preparations for the D-Day landings. 🪖 #WWII #GlasgowHistory #DDay

On this #DDay anniversary, we’re uncovering a wartime secret In March 1944, the US Army asked to close Crookston to the public, citing “secret ordnance” on site. Just months before the landings… Could amphibious equipment have been stored here? What do you think?
