Got my eyes on you (👁️🔻👁️) Burrowing Owls are standard fixtures of prairies in the Great Plains, but habitat loss and degradation is a major threat. In fact, populations have all but disappeared from former habitat, including in the Palouse Prairie. We're working to fix that. #Owl #Wildlife #Nature

🏃‍♀️We SPRINTED when we heard the first flowers started blooming in the Palouse 🌼 Meet the Bulbous Woodland Star (Lithophragma glabrum), one of the very first signs of spring in the Palouse Prairie. These tiny flowers are only an inch or so tall, but they're tougher than they look.

Is that a tarantula? Nope! It's a wolf spider 🐺🕷️ Part of the "giant wolf spider" genus, Tigrosa grandis is certainly large. Females of this species can reach up to 3 inches long! We found this individual while collecting seeds to restore endangered prairie in the northern Great Plains.

For as vast as the Great Plains seem, there is shockingly little intact, healthy prairie left 🌿 We found this big 💪 Big Bluestem grass (Andropogon gerardi) happily growing in a gorgeous section of Ft. Pierre National Grassland during a seed collection mission last August. #Grassland #Restoration

🌼Most people don't associate Washington state with orchids, but we have at least 7 species in the Palouse Prairie alone! 🌿 This Alaska Rein-Orchid (Platanthera unalaskensis) seemed happy in an exposed section of true prairie despite usually being found in forest environments. #Wildflower #Nature

Decreased forest ⬇️ = Increased erosion ⬆️ = Decreased ecosystem services ⬇️ Erosion lowers water quality & availability for communities. By restoring endangered rainforest in Ivohiboro, Madagascar, we are limiting erosion threatening the survival of imperiled biodiversity & neighboring communities.

Thriving ecosystems should exist in our children's' futures, not in our past.
