@ianfoster1971.bsky.social 2/2 it was on BG at dusk reported as in dunes (the original spot where potentially could roost) but it was so obvious that if not seen today likely gone. It’s low tide now and there is plenty of cliff edge and stony shore to the north which is less disturbed so maybe 🤷‍♂️

@ianfoster1971.bsky.social re the Issy Wheatear Ian it was ranging over 200m south of the original spot about 17:30 last but was feeding on beach with Pied Wags and as it was approaching high tide was a bit mobile with less space for dog walkers. Not too bothered by people but wary of dogs. 1/2

Well @stewchat.bsky.social what a difference a day makes - l see it hit 21c at Boulmer today and was almost as warm here on the Durham coast. My first Swallow today seems tardy compared to other parts of UK but would have been considered early when l started birding in 1970s. Expecting more tomorrow

Hendon Sunderland 12:30-14:00 A very chilly watch but after missing out yesterday through work caught up with 7 Little Auks today. Few ducks moving and up to seven species of wader on beach with 80+ Dunlin moving north slightly offshore somewhat unusual.

Another autumn check of the bottom lake at Silksworth which looks absolutely spot on for colonisation by Cetti’s. Not yet though, but a first (for me anyway) at the site of Little Egret, and 2 Goosander on the top (main) lake where they are regularly seen.

Had a run up to sunny Bamburgh today where despite choppy seas the drake White winged Scoter found by Ross Ahmed showed reasonable well at x50 in scope. Bonaparte’s Gull as elusive as ever - no sign. Still couple of pretty late juv Arctic Terns about #NEbirding #UKbirding

A late report of one at Cannock Chase in Staffs yesterday so not quite as bleak as l thought 🤞

It seems ridiculous to me that it is FIFTY years to the day that l found my first “rarity” a cracking Great Grey Shrike. In reality they were a scarce winter visitor then but nowadays they are approaching if not already at true rarity status. Quite sad to see not one bird reported anywhere today😞

Very disappointing seawatch at Hendon today after yesterday’s incessant rain and strong NE it was still strong N blow but very few birds moving and light often poor. 20 Barnacles and a juv Pom in 2 hours says it all #NEbirding
