Great crested grebe numbers on the rise in the Tees Bay -112 today from North Gare along with the Velvet scoter still and a few Mergs.

1cy Caspian gull again at Haverton Hill roost along with the look-alike/ hybrid or whatever it is, this afternoon. Lovely male Merlin on Back Saltholme and 2 Ruff on Port Clarence flood

Juvenile Caspian Gull on the sea off Newburn this morning. Garganey on Back Saltholme before the rain this afternoon but little else different around the North Tees Marshes. 3 Roseate terns and 22 Little Gulls off Hartlepool Headland this morning.

A nice fresh juv Little Stint is on Saltholme west.

Common sea urchin washed up on Seaton Snook this morning- never seen one on Teesside before.

Adult Sabines gull just gone N at Hartlepool Headland close inshore

While emptying the moth trap this morning had some good garden birds too. Short-eared Owl flew past mobbed by Herring Gulls and 13 Crossbills went south.

A few things in the Old Cemetery scrub this morning- whitethroat, wheatear, grasshopper warbler blackcaps and a couple of willow warblers. 70 scoter off Parton Rocks and 14 Purple sands

This large gull on the Hartlepool rocks yesterday appears to be a’Viking’ aka Glauc x Herring hybrid

At least there is some benefit to a snowy day -on the feeders this am. I haven’t seen it in the garden since November

A fairly quiet sea watch at Hartlepool this morning enlivened by a close in Little Auk north with supporting cast of Gannet, RB Mergs and a few large auks. Common and Green Sands on Billingham Beck.
