It’s been a year of work and the culmination of four years of learning - feels good to finally submit my dissertation!

A lot of today was horizontal sleet and hail, but in the breaks the views were glorious.

It will *definitely* make you cry. If you have a young person in your life who’ll need a birthday present soon I can highly recommend!

The David Guillaume Mechanicus soundtrack really deserves a mention in my dissertation for being instrumental (hah!) in its genesis. I must have listened to that album hundreds of times by now.

Back to rainy weather and trying to convince R to do what I want today. Cheered by an early birthday present mug!

Things got weird and wonderful for the next session, with woodland creation as a risk factor for tick densities, ladybirds in graveyards (I had no idea the UK has so many species of ladybird!) and then a student keynote Adam Woodward about cruise ship light pollution impacts on sea birds.

Then we heard about online interest in invasive non-native species, attitudes towards free-living sus scrofa, whether kids actually interpret NCI questions the way we think they do and then it was me!

Another day at @scotnsconf.bsky.social! In the morning we leaned about aspen suckers, puffins vs nettles (the poor pufflings!), ectomycorrhizal fungi in alpine-arctic willow stands from @sarahwatts.bsky.social and PCB pollution in harbour porpoises.

Following a careers panel and a fantastic keynote talk by Penny Clarke about using remote sensing to detect cetacean stranding, session two featured crows, Sitka, peat and beavers

Great session 1, covering a wide range of topics from night-pollinating moths over newts and fish all the way to herring gulls. Didn’t know the latter are on the UK Red List! @scotnsconf.bsky.social
