So i was arguing with another hollow knight player and apparently mot believe that only the pale king is supposed to be a wyrm? been brainstorming with my brother for the toxic game jam and since i really like weird existential stuff, we had this idea of a monster that only exist when you arent looking at it. ...through thinking about it, as wack as the concept sound, its kind of just the boo from mario bros.

#gamedev #solodev #indiegame #screenshotsaturday I reworked the healthbar to give it space to grow as you upgrade but now it feels kind of tiny, which doesn't quite fit the story. Jupe isn't at her full power at the start of the game, but she is still meant to be pretty up there.

A good thread that really demonstrates that a lot of the folks who like silksongs are not some elitists who want to gatekeep and feel superior to others, but just little freaks who genuinely enjoy trudging through the challenges of the game.

To be honest, yeah, there has been a pattern in recent fromsoft games of massively skewing the difficulty toward the bosses, making them increasingly more complex and challenging, while levels have ironically become more forgiving with an amplitude of checkpoints.

#gamedev #gamedesign #indiegame Grabbing rosaries felt pretty satisfying in silksong, so i made the game currency into physical objects that drop from defeated enemies and have to be picked up. Dragons award a large amount, but dont consistently respawn once defeated.

Okay, since the whole accessibility thing has been on my mind, and went and experimented with a draft for customisable game speed. It's functional, through it doesn't feel all that good, mostly due to the way the main character already has slow attacks with noticeable delays.

Overall, now that ive experience most of what the game had to offer, my personal stance on the difficulty discourse is that a lot of people dont seem to actually want to take responsibility for their experience and blame the game for being inconvenient rather than engage it in its own terms.

Okay, finally beaten the true final boss of silksong and im pretty much done with the game. Id say overall that the most interesting thing about the game is how its message contrast the first game by having us fight to preserve a dying but very much alive kingdom rather than accept its demise.

Okay, i mostly had praise for silksong so far, but while i understand the purpose of the game being stingy when it come to rosaries, i also feel that it should have had some engaging way to farm them in endgame, especially as what you cna find isnt nearly enough for everything being sold.

progressed a bit in act 3 and i cant really describe how insane it is that not only does the game feature a whole secret 3rd act, but that this third act comes with a massive rework of the world that makes you feel like you are exploring it all over again.

There a certain pitiful sadness to hornet story in the original hollow knight. Originally, she had been carefully created and raised to be the ideal monarch. But the kingdom she was meant to lead fell to ruin before she even had a chance to take over.

You know, silksong was already just as big as hollow knight and all its dlc combined with act 1 and 2, but then they decided that the game was also going to have a whole secret 3rd act, locked behind an alternate ending that requires the completion of every sidequest to uncover.

One thing i really like about silksong is that the game features a boatload of optional endgame areas. One small gripe i had with hollow knight is that while the dlcs provided some of the best boss fights in the game, we didn't really get new areas outside of a revamp of the hive and path of pain.

Okay, almost at the end of act 2 in silksong and i think its about a good time to talk about boss runbacks. Overall, i dont really like them. In the bets of cases, they are a small inconvenience that can be used meditatively, but at worse, they can render the process of learning a boss unfun.

This is a subject that particularly frustrate me as an enjoyer of hard game that also cares a lot about accessibility. There is a lot of greys area when it comes to certain disability, but my position as a whole is that we should strive for everyone to have access to the intended experience.

i might have to start being upfront about how being a solodev doesn't mean i literally created everything in my games. Its really a problem that people dont realise that solodevs and small teams often have to rely on contractors or premade assets to make their product.

as someone who consider themselves a "mostly" solodev, i do strongly oppose this behavior from the press of excluding contractors and diminishing the worth of their work. Everyone who has worked on a game is an important part of the final product, no matter the size of their contribution.
