It’s pretty slow but that “Home Alone: The Musical” bit with Andrew Barth Feldman was genuinely hilarious.

Stranger Things S5 is not good enough for this silly release schedule.

Welp… Train Dreams wrecked me. One of the best films of the year.

Alright #Filmsky and #Letterboxd buffs… What are the greatest Modern Holiday Movies out there? Think Thanksgiving to New Years? The Green Knight? Holdovers? Klaus? The Holiday? what else?

I was worried about how they would take the inferior and shorter act and stretch it out… turns out, fears were justified. This bad boy was a SLOG.

He was already the reason I was on the fence to go see it in theaters and this type of jack-assery isn’t helping.

The Beyond (1981) is a much better exercise in practical artistry than in storytelling, so depending on what you’re watching for, your experience may vary.

It’s been a solid week 2 of the Halloween season!

Finally caught Ghostwatch (1992) and jeez, if I had been old enough to watch this air live on a NEWS STATION, I would have thought it was real too!

I forgot how much I liked Werewolf by Night (2022). It’s simply put, just a whole lotta fun and surprising brutal as far as the MCU goes. I am still pissed that the MCUs R-Rated Blade project has all but fallen through. And where’s our Midnight Sons Project, huh? Cowards

The narrative can feel a bit uneven at times, but overall Night of the Hunter (1955) delivers memorable set pieces and haunting, expressionistic photography, anchored by Robert Mitchum’s uncomfortably devious performance as it explores vulnerability and how belief can be twisted to justify harm.

Cabin in the Woods (2011) never ceases to make me smile. Just a cleverly brutal and hilarious ode the entirety of the horror genre.

The Stepford Wives (1975) is an incredibly methodical slow burn and Ross is perfect in it. Even knowing the turn, the existential dread builds so well that the finale still lands. And it’s devastating.

Let the Corpses Tan (2017) is pretty much the definition of style over substance, but hot damn it is so very stylish.

May we all be surrounded by protective communities based in love and belonging. One Battle After Another was fantastic btw…

The Gill-Man costume, as cool as it is, hasn’t exactly aged the best, and the script and plot are pretty bare bones. But for 1954, those underwater sequences, stunt work, and choreography are downright impressive, especially when you compare it to the budget of something like 20,000 Leagues.

The Surfer was a bit of a slow burn but sometimes, just like the right wave, you’ve got to be patient. I dig it but mileage may vary with others.

Horror fans are out here sleeping on Watcher (2022). Just rewatched and it’s a deeply oppressive and creepy movie and Monroe is absolutely perfect in it.

The Company of Wolves (1984) a dreamy and sometimes sluggish dark folk fantasy anthology and though it’s not perfect, it has one of the coolest transformation sequences in all of werewolf cinema.

Just finished Mad God (2021) and can I tell you what it means? No But is it easily one of the most unique, grotesque, and impressive feats of animation I’ve seen? Absolutely

Color Out of Space (2019) was a miss for me. Pieces never really pulled together well and most of the effects did not play well for me. And though I try to not compare, it’s tough when movies like Mandy (2018) and The Thing (1982) exist cause why wouldn’t you just go watch those instead.

Opera (1987) may not be my favorite Argento but it has some absolutely killer moments.

David Jonsson is on fire though. I’ve seen 3 films of his in the last three years and he’s been immaculate in every one of em.

I’ll sit with it for a little bit, but The Long Walk may have sneaked its way to the top of my list for the year.

MSNBC fired Matthew Dowd for pointing out Kirk’s hate speech while Fox keeps Brian Kilmeade after he said killing the homeless via lethal injection would end homelessness. A perfect example of how right-wing extremism is tolerated, but even pointing it out gets punished. The media reinforces this.

From a technical aspect, Warfare hits the mark on what it hoped to achieve. At a certain point, though , I'm uninterested in stories of war that are meant for spectacle, that don't really question the systems of power that force people into this hell.
