For anyone curious about FE2CM's death loop, this change was made by Roblox against my consent; they forced a different part type for the avatar's head loaded in. FE2's code seems to handle the breaking change better; when FE2CM gets updated to the latest FE2 version, it should be 'resolved'

Is there no repo that offers Luau-based Roblox engine service alternatives? I wrote an offline datastore emulator last night and it occurred to me I currently have 2 libraries that can serve to run in place of roblox services. I would either like to contribute those or start a new repo.

ShaderBeam is a legitimately interesting tool for if you have a high refresh rate display; It simulates a CRT display pretty damn well in that it provides better motion clarity github.com/mausimus/Sha... I gave it a go on Quake 1 yesterday and it's pretty legit

This is the last recorded video I have of it; I had implemented valve's dithering method to help improve convergence particularly with transparent objects. I am still incredibly happy at how quick it can converge into a plausible image, but realtime was my goal.

I do kinda miss working on my pathtracer, it was a stepping stone in helping me approach things with a lower level computing mindset. Maybe I'll revisit it because I know that Roblox themselves have been improving performance in ways that help address the pathtracer... Here's some dev screenies

I need to honestly thank the Forsaken team for approaching us and wanting to collaborate because their update kicks ass too I'm genuinely at a loss for words that FE2 reached a new peak player count. Everyone who's played for the first time & everyone who has stuck around, we thank you all ❤️

No fucking way This is more than FE2's peak from when Beneath The Ruins released in 2018

I can say with confidence that a lot of the teething issues in establishing a team-based workflow for FE2 (Which was held up solely by myself, apologies) is more-or-less sorted! We worked on improving how we expose player data in the code and as a result we'll be able to focus on iteration in 2026.

Been able to get a stripped-down version of Penumbra running through luau -> linux -> BIOS text! Need to improve framebuffer -> text conversion, but it's a result nonetheless.

Maybe working on open-source stuff would allow me to feel comfortable live-streaming programming again I have missed doing that

This took much more effort than it was worth, and I’ve still got to display error/warning messages. But it’s modern programming done exclusively in BIOS text mode. So I’m happy

I've been getting a development workflow set up in Alpine Linux, in which its minimalistic nature has allowed me to get quite comfortable with learning more linux-y things. And doing it all in QEMU VMs which I can duplicate, backup & restore at a moments notice make learning it all SO. MUCH. FASTER
