M5 chip is literally the fastest CPU based on single-core scores in the world; I really wish the rest of the industry recognises how this is capable, and outside of CPU architecture they should be absolutely providing faster RAM chips to the system.

I fudged up the refraction stuff and am in the process of rebuilding my BSDF, but since then I decided to remove checkerboarding, the tradeoff seems worth it since now I have other optimisations in place

It feels like the logic for the renderer is writing itself at this point; there's enough groundwork for it laid down that more and more is just slotting into place.

Thinking on how to handle intersections when inside an object…. Workspace:Raycast() isn’t really built for this, so it may be that I would need to start doing the groundwork for my own raycasting model… Not fun, but I was going to need to cross this bridge at some point anyway.

Refraction is starting to work! So this is working for initial intersections with the medium of an object, but I need to perform the check again when leaving an object.

More vector math stuff today Keeping track of what space I'm operating in is wild I've got radians, linear 0-1, sometimes degrees if I feel like making a mistake It's like a new way of thinking, and handling spherical coordinates is really opening my eyes to the potential of this stuff

Having so much fun writing my own libraries, great learning exercise for structure and systems that can encompass a given datatype. Today, it's been all about vectors. I previously learned about spherical coordinates, and now I'm looking to do all the other ones like polar, barycentric etc.

Rayman 2 & 3 were major influences on my game design, this deal is ridiculously cheap and it runs on literally any modern machine. Give this a go if you wanna look for inspiration or just wanna throw yourself into another world for a bit, promise you it’s worth it

Big reason that visual progress hasn't accelerated as much as I would like for my renderer, is that I've actually been using it as a springboard for defining a a project structure that allows it to remain as platform-agnostic as possible, while still being able to take advantage of platform features
