Addendum: Also, what about stories where highlighting the abusive aspect of an interaction *is the point*? Not every depiction of nudity or sex is something you're meant to get off to. Does that content and those stories just no longer have a place on this site?

Without dialogue, how can you distinguish between a character who's into bondage and one who's tied up against their will? Who gets to decide the line between a depiction of rough sex vs rape?

You might see several artists mad about the bluesky policy update banning non-con, even artists who do not make that kind of material, and wonder why it's such a problem. If that's you, here is a quick breakdown: 🧵

Broadly banning non consentual sex isn't protecting anyone, it's holding shut your eyes and ears and pretending it doesn't exist. Since you make such a big deal out of letting users control their own experience, maybe have some confidence in that instead. You're giving up what made you unique.

Are you really going to go the same route as the paypros and censor the work of artists because of broad-brush "objectionable" content? We shouldn't have to explain the healthy expressive purpose of noncon, dubcon, bdsm, etc. content, especially for queer artists, on the one platform we have left.

Just add another tier to NSFW labels maybe? By forbidding fictional depictions, yes, even of darker subjects, you are helping nobody. Introducing an extra means to mark it so people who ain't into it can avoid it: okay. Forbidding it outright: bad, stupid, and you'll lose plenty of users.
