I appreciate that cats spend so much time licking their butts. It makes me confident they're putting clean things on my face.

This sizable Pileated Woodpecker was hammering on a hollow log next to the trail. Loud, bright, hard to miss. I went a few steps away to watch strangers get excited spotting them.

Waxwings hit up the mountain ash berries today. An intimidating reminder that they outnumber me.

I realized that when I think of writing a book or a script, or creating a podcast or doing a TikTok video, that that is the best part. Thinking about it. No one understands the trauma of the really lazy.

Today I learned that Facebook has settings you can change to show less low-quality and unoriginal content. The default settings are... not less.

I love the light at winter's minimum up north. Here the sun peaks at 13 degrees above the horizon so sunrise slowly eases into sunset. This looks due south at 1230. Waking up before the sun is miserable, but the light all day can be ethereal.

Hard work and patience led to this lucky shot. By, "hard work and patience," I mean holding down the shutter button and terabyte sized storage cards.

My sister has a unique 6 letter middle name that rhymes with, "dot com." Today I found out the actual .com was available, never owned. Great use of $11.

It's very hard for me to spend less than an hour in a butterfly conservatory. Only 1% of the photos turn out well, but if you take a few thousand each visit...

Big birds are much easier to catch in flight as the autofocus has more subject to deal with.
