There is an increasingly common and very lazy notion that universities are left biased. That needs countering as universities are under attack in the US but also elsewhere. I wrote a thread about it.

Universities aren’t “biased” because they care about inequality or social justice. They’re biased toward evidence. Toward facts. Especially in the US, careless talk of “left-wing bias” invites real damage. Thoughts from US/UK experience here: 👇

I've been reading the lovely work of Liz Holt on laughter this week. I love the way she takes you through particular sequences of talk, explains where the laughter is, and often how it sounds -- and for speech people, a really important message is that laughter has many tasks in conversation.

A few thoughts on academic civility, the paradigm ceasefire, and the challenge posed to critical social psychology by the misdiagnosis of the replicability crisis. Based on the idea that the Harré quote below would be seen as terribly poor form if uttered by a prominent social psychologist today.

A rather magical visit to the House of Commons in the Palace of Westminster. At a meeting there today I was surprised to learn that the UK's automotive, aerospace and life sciences industries are all smaller, even when all three are added together, than the UK's creative industries.

Let's talk about simulation for communication training: Simulation is often used for communication training & assessment for healthcare students & professionals There is, however, an assumption of authenticity when it comes to how people communicate. This assumption is challenged by research.

Might have something to do with sustained attacks on Higher Education in general, and the humanities in particular, by the previous government and its client journalists at the Telegraph, along with massive cuts to funding, caused by that government's policies. You can't have it both ways.
