This volunteer queen palm next to my deck just popped out another flower head. The inflorescence is huge, probably 4-5 feet long and seems to just appear overnight. I never see them emerging but I would love to. We've had few flowers since the recent freeze, so the bees are wildly enthusiastic.

Good day, my Bleeps. I've been seeing an immature male indigo bunting among the painted buntings in my yard since February 9. Today for the first time, I saw a female indigo bunting. The clue is the blue tinge on her tail. I haven't seen the two together, but we shall see.

Mourning doves love millet seed, and this one really wants into that small-bird feeder, but can't figure out how to perch on it. There's plenty of feed for the doves in other nearby feeders, so this dramatic moment was totally unnecessary.

Sometimes the buntings prefer the protective wire cage to the perches. The green female on the left is clinging to the cage while she stretches to reach the food hopper.

Woke up just in time to jump into socks and a jacket and pop out onto the deck to see the lunar eclipse. I wasn't expecting much, since full eclipse would occur just before moonset and just before sunrise, and we have trees obscuring our western view, but I got more than I hoped for.

Good morning, my Bleeps. The hidey-hole-under-the-stairs took a beating in the freeze a couple of weeks ago. I've been slowly clearing away the dead. One of my flamingos even lost a leg. 😥

I'm distracted from enjoying the library book I'm reading because it is full of crumbs. The crumbs are tiny and are stuck to the pages. I can't help being distracted, wondering what the source of these crumbs was. What kind of food was being consumed while reading Jane Austen, and why do I care?
