Ive been reflecting on the last 2 years as I leave my on the phone call center job to something more specialized in the company i see my previous life with art firmly in my past. Theres something freeing about it. That all it takes for genuine progress in life is having the will to try.

Ive been offered a position at my work thats completely off the phones Its taken just shy of 2 years to find this opportunity but I am happy I am finally leaving the call center. No more taking calls and I'll be working on authorizing medications for our members. Progress.

Found out that one of my favourite photographers passed away a few days ago due to a motorcycle accident. Absolutely tragic. Rest in peace David Dubnitskiy Photo study I did years ago of one of his photos.

One of the last projects I worked on before putting down the paint brush for good, Hit Point Press, Fool's Gold. I got to work with one of my favorite artist, Justin Chan. Still look back on those days and feel very fortunate.

8000 layoffs. That’s insane. The CEOs should be the ones to go. They are the ones that failed. Game dev students who are watching this happen, please make a plan b for your futures sake. There are no signs of things improving.

Lately Ive been feeling inspired. Not to create, and not about achievement or merits. I feel inspired to press on. To move forward. To be present in what happens next, and be whole heartily content in the things I have over the things I don't. Finding peace as the sand falls between our fingers.

I still have absolutely no desire to pick up a paint brush. If I ever do, it will be for myself only. To see that absolutely nothing has improved in the game and entertainment industries that I spent 15 years of my life in, only reaffirms me that my future in those industries wasn’t guaranteed.

Happy birthday Mom. You would be 71 today. I miss you and Dad more with each year that goes by. Life has only gotten harder without you both, but I’m hangin in there. Where ever you two are, I hope there’s an ocean view and a beach to take nice walks on, like how we used to.

I still get emails requesting for commissions. It’s very flattering, some even are aware that I no longer work as an artist. B It breaks my heart each time as I respond to them letting them know how much that means to me, but I still don’t have any desire to create let alone reinstall photoshop.

I’ve been out of the game industry for just under two years now I’ve had 4 raises and 2 bonuses so far at my current call centre job. I already make more than I ever did as an artist in games. My company earned less last year but still gave raises You won’t see that in games Good riddance!

Finally have a week of vacation! Firing up Monster Hunter Wilds for the first time as well as digging into Vintage Story. Let the degen vacation begin!

I’m doing pretty well at my new non art job I’ve even spearheaded the creation of a new position and helped develop it. Was offered the position but I turned it down, as I would rather someone with better qualifications get it. Either way, left the game industry and not once have I looked back

Adult life is being excited for garbage day because you bought a nice new trash bin that you’re excited to use because it won’t blow away!

It’s a shame that out of my 15 yrs of working in a creative field, all my relationships were transient. It’s a thought that just leaves me feeling used and taken for granted. Turns out this is sadly the norm for most all cases when someone leaves a job/industry. Wish it wasn’t like this.

Finally was able to budget a gaming rig upgrade. Went from a gtx 1650 to an rtx 4080 and I feel like my life has purpose again!

Sold my car today. Had it since 2016. Bought it new for 9k CAD which even then was a steal. Only put 27000 klms on it and the older it gets the more it will cost for maintenance just to have it sit in my driveway. So I sold it. Such a strange sentimental feeling. Thanks for all the rides!

Selling my little 6 speed 2016 Hyundai Accent tomorrow. Been through a lot with this thing. Even though it’s just an object that sits in my driveway, not ever being used cus I work from home, it will be a sentimental end of another chapter in my life.

Day one of my new call centre job is tomorrow. Feeling cathartic and ready to move on from art and into a career that at least has a pension and benefits. After a break from art, I’ll eventually be back and will post my stuff here. See you soon.

Got the call center job. I hope the industry somehow changes and starts respecting its creatives and devs. If they ever do, that's when I'll consider coming back. There is no reason a 150 billion+ dollar industry can't change how it treats its employees. The greed has to end.
