The Doctor sips at his tea and thinks for a moment. How to explain… “Well, it’s not really family in the traditional sense. We time lords are divided into Chapters, and I guess you could say we were all related — so I have hundreds of siblings — so to speak.” There’s that grin of his again.

“I would love one, thank you.” Jacob nodded. “Ah! So you come from a big family like myself. I only really know my brother, Brax, though…” He trailed off before being snapped back to reality by the question being asked of him. “Nope! It just makes it more heroic, if you ask me, but I may be biased”

“Wow, that’s an incredible story. Seems we both have interesting spousal-meeting tales.” He nodded thoughtfully, humming as he drummed his fingers on the table. “That baby my wife jumped on the airship to save? That was her foster sister. Her name’s Lulubelle.”

“Of course I would!”

Jacob grinned. “I’m glad you do.”

“I’d truly be lost without her.”

“That’s what I love about her.”

“That’s how I met my wife initially,” Jacob laughs. “I found her hanging from a ladder of a goblin airship. She was trying to save a baby from being eaten. Talk about bravery!”

“She’s wonderful. I’m sure you understand the happiness of a good marriage.”

“Well, I definitely am. I wouldn’t change anything for the universe.”

Jacob finishes his tea with a raised brow. “Did you think otherwise?”

“She’s fantastic. I’ll introduce you someday.” He pondered the second question for a moment while ignoring the first at the same time. “No. I love my wife and I’m glad I’m with her.”

“A few faces,” Jacob replied. “So a few hundred years. Obviously, it wasn’t that long for her, but she didn’t recognize me at first.” His face turned a bit red. “You know, I still think of him sometimes. If only to wonder if he’s okay.”

“I used up one of my lives to save her from a gunshot wound that grazed her heart,” the Doctor said flippantly, despite the seriousness of the situation. Seems that was second nature to him. “I couldn’t let her die, no matter what. As for Rogue… yes. He was very hot.” He grins.

“Half,” he told him as he took another sip. “When I met her, she was human. We traveled together for a while, but I was too busy crushing on a man named Rogue to realize she was into me.” He laughs. “Then as fate would have it, a few of my faces later I saved her from a waterfall!” The Doctor grins.

The Doctor chuckled and took a sip of his tea. “Aye, I’m happily married. Have been for the past three faces or so. She’s wonderful. Her name is Tardia. It was Ruby before she regenerated — but she took that name after waking up with a new face. I told her I’d support her ho matter what.

“Oh, about six months,” Jacob pondered while tapping his chin thoughtfully. “I just patrolled a young solar system with new civilizations, made sure they were free from invaders. I took my wife with me.”

Jacob returned the cheerful wave before turning back to Jude. He knew why, so it didn’t have to be said even if it wasn’t a sore subject. “I’ve just come back from a far away galaxy,” he told him. “I figured I’d come and say hello.”

“Tea would be lovely, thank you.” Jacob smiled and drummed his fingers on the table. “Are you okay? Overdoing it is never good.” Even though he was wearing those dark sunglasses he always wore, the smile on his face extended to his eyes.

“Oh, not really,” Jacob says as he takes a seat across from Jude. “Kind of hoping I would run into you so we could catch up!”

Jacob grinned at Jude and waved back at him. “I know, right? It’s wonderful!”

He’s here! He’s walking in!

“You can say that again,” the Doctor grimaces. “And they get into so much trouble in those short lives.”

He shrugs. “Sometimes it is. Sometimes I can only save one person and the rest have to die… it really depends on the situation.”

“If it makes you feel any better, I usually end up with a few deaths on my hands”

He catches the beer and cracks it open. “Damn, I’m sorry.”

The Doctor downed his own beer and crushed the can. “What happened?”

“When you wanna? So only sometimes?”

“Oh you know, exploring, finding people that need help.”
