Landed in London. There was a CRAZY aurora outside on the flight over, I've never seen anything like it! Absolutely surreal...

Further Confusion was really good this year, as it always is! Going in I'd been worried it would be a quiet one but it was lots of fun start to finish. Thanks to the many many wonderful friends I was able to spend time with, see you again next year or (hopefully) even sooner!

Visiting the physics department at UC Davis yesterday and today. It's a nice campus (and all the students bike, so it feels almost continental European despite being in the California Central Valley). Will be visiting a local friend tomorrow - and then I'll be off to FC!

It's the warmest winter in history in New Mexico, so I spent the day pretending it was summer and went hiking

2025 was a strange one for me... a lot of good times, some very difficult times. It's left me with a lot to think about. I hope 2026 is calmer and steadier...!

Time to start my long winter trip! This year I have been so distracted I've not even scheduled half of it yet, but I'll be flying to Albuquerque today and out of San Francisco on the 19th. Hoping to catch up with lots of friends!

Having preciously stayed in hotel room 621 (at a fur con) and 420, I can now add another funny number to my list

International travel can be a drag but I do enjoy being able to sleep for 12 hours the evening after returning home...

Finally back home! Where by "home" I mean the office because I'll be going straight into a bunch of meetings...

Spent the whole weekend writing an ultra-fast-track paper on a really interesting astronomical object one of the students in my group found earlier this month - but despite working nonstop for three days it was a lot of fun getting it together! (Vague preview below...)

Yesterday a visiting speaker gave a talk to our department about his work developing an AI system to write (bad) scientific papers, and the only thing our PhD students are talking about today is how AI is terrible and must be razed to the ground. The kids are alright
