turns out im fucking stupid i didn't need to texture paint OR shrink wrap anything. you can just apply materials to individual faces of a mesh. which is literally something i learned how to do in my 3D Modeling class weeks ago. needless to say there is now no clipping at all anymore

i'll be the first to critique myself since no one else will: i think a lot of my art ive posted over the last two years has mostly been "characters standing around in a solid color void" this isnt a problem by itself but i feel like the poses/expressions i draw arent dynamic or interesting enough

been thinking about what other characters of mine i should make into 3D models and it made me realize how would this hairstyle even work in 3D

my favorite kind of female characters are the ones that are cute and girly but also allowed to be short-tempered, mean, goofy, crazy, and badass some examples off the top of my head:

the arms, legs, and skirt are all rigged (though they'll all need to be tweaked a bit) also there's no face rig ive just been moving his pupils and mouth manually for these. i think the mouth is the only part of his face that'll actually need rigging but idk we'll see

modeling the skirt was the hardest part so far because i couldnt for the life of me figure out how to smooth out the hem, even with modifiers. turns out it just needed more vertices and i was too stubborn to subdivide lol. looks perfect now
