I'm intrigued by the similar prefix attached to words for 'goblin' throughout the UK: eg bogle, bogey, boggart, bugaboo and in Wales bwgan. Either of the last two may have given us 'Boo!' Bug - a small, creepy thing - is perhaps from the same root word, one which may be 1000s of years old. #folklore
