no one is arguing about the prod team being compensated for their labor. anyone who's modded a zine can tell you it's a lot of—sometimes thankless—work. the joy is in creating a project by/for the community & expressing love and passion for the work. it should NEVER come at the contributors' expense

Any business model where you build in 15% profit for your zine business but charge contributors for their own copies (from which you also make profit) is a really shitty model given that it’s the contributors’ content that makes fandom projects possible in the first place.

got a really cool idea for a stretch goal. maybe... proper compensation for the contributors?! 😲

ultimately, i do agree with the sentiment that contributors should always research the mod team & compensation model before joining a fan project—but very specifically because of scenarios like this where artists are being denied proper compensation for their hard work.

If your fan project is somehow unable to 'afford' to allow contributors to buy their own work at production price, may I suggest: don't run the project
