I got to see the new UCSD CSE machine room. The approach to cooling is dramatically different than the older machine room, with a focus on in-rack heat exchanging into liquid which is pumped out of the room. It's pretty neat, and quite impressive!

Many of the iPhone's internal software and hardware components are inventions funded by the National Science Foundation, whose funding is now being drastically cut. If we want to maintain US leadership in the tech sector, we must fund fundamental research in CS (and many other fields as well!)
