Day 4 of hide build: An early start to try to get the cladding completed before Denis has to drive all the way back to Essex! Clever repurposing of window shields into sills and it’s looking blooming amazing!!!!! Thank you Denis! What a star 😍

Day 3 of hide build: Mega progress as frame is finished, windows installed and membrane and battens on! We even started the cladding! I’ve never done this before and it’s was very satisfying! It’s looking amazing!

Day 2 of hide build…… Building a frame in which to build an end wall . The windows I’m using are repurposed from the old caravan 😁

Hide Build Day 1: To create my hide out of the wooden shack, Denis and I had to dismantle the front section of the caravan and remove it. We would then have a space on which to build a frame to create a new wall, which will include 3 of the caravan windows !

Welcome to Jurassic Park……… well, the #GwylltHollow quarry! We have had a lot of rain the last few days and the quarry pool which I dug put in November, is now looking very like the vision I had in my mind, when I cleared this area and aimed to create a better habitat for wildlife 😁

The meadow that borders my garden is looking stunning! Lots of orchids, yellow rattle and eye bright at the moment. The latter two are both parasitic on the roots of grasses, helping to keep vigorous grasses at bay and allowing other wildflowers to flourish 😁

I am thrilled to announce I have found my first orchid at #GwylltHollow 😁❤️

After a week of wet and wind, the garden has exploded, fallen over and become tangled and wild….. I’m gently teasing some of it back into order and in other areas I embrace the wild abandon of foliage! It’s a full time job keeping on top of this place at this time of year, but I love it! 😍🥰

I was trying to work out what was attacking my Buddleia. Then I spotted this stunning caterpillar. It is the larvae of the mullein moth. The caterpillar is amazing to look at … the adult less so….. I haven’t seen any mullein in the garden this year…. So they had to settle for a Buddleia 😁

And the award for the splashiest bath this week goes to….. The European Jay!!

The nuthatches have started using my pond for a quick splash. There are loads of nuthatches in this area. They often come down to drink here, but the bathing is a relatively new thing. Lovely to see 😀😍 @birdfybynetvue.bsky.social @birdfy.bsky.social

The polytunnel strawberries in the pallet planters I built, are looking…… and tasting…. amazing!

A truly wonderful trip to Chelsea! Huge thank you to @songbirdsurvival.bsky.social for inviting me. Their beautiful garden showcased how planting and design can bring so much for wildlife, especially song birds… I absolutely loved it. 😁❤️

A weekend of work on my chicken run. Old chippings lifted, chicken wire laid on the ground to prevent rats digging in underneath, bit of a re arrange and then lots of trolley-loads of lovely new chippings! The girls seem to approve!!! #GwylltHollow 🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓

My recent trip to @skomer_island was amazing! The sea campion was prolific in certain areas, I was keen to photograph the puffins within these blooms. As you can imagine….. I took a lot of shots. Here are a few of my favourites….

It’s a tough life being a single owlet…. No one to interact with other than flies!!! Noctis has been active in the box today, attempting to clamber about and look out of the entrance. After all that excursion, it was time for naps, sleeping flat out on the base of the box.

I built a bench over Teasel’s grave in my meadow. A place where Wren and I can sit and think of her. I will surround it with Teasels for the bees in Summer and birds in Autumn. A fitting tribute to such a special girl 💔❤️

Goodbye sweet girl 💔💔💔 Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my dear Teasel after she was killed on the road near my home. I am heartbroken and she will leave a big hole in our lives. I buried her in my meadow and a new bench will mark the spot. Run free and crazy. Loved you so much sweet Teasel 💔

Such a beautiful evening, so took a walk up to Dinevwr Castle …… it was truly stunning! Woods full of bluebells and flowering wild garlic, the most beautiful aroma of warm, moist soil and foliage and then a sunset to top it all.

Lovely to welcome you here. Looking forward to being part of the project 😁

My crab apple (I think!) is stunning! Last year, I don’t remember it flowering like this and it certainly didn’t have any fruit. It was covered in bees this morning! #GwylltHollow #blossom

April and May at #GwylltHollow is so stunning. The work over the last year is reaping benefits, but nature is the biggest driver and I am simply facilitating it to maximise its impact. Every day, I walk around & pinch myself …. I feel so, so lucky to have found this place and to be its custodian……
