Also today I'm going to do something I never do, which is watch pairs, albeit like this 🫣. I understand that all figure skating comes with risk, but pair girls...they're built different.

Rewatching Shaidorov's FS and I must have missed the 3A + euler + 4Sal combo the first time because he made it look so effortless, but that's an insane jump combo right? Are a lot of other people doing that? I need someone who is a bigger #figureskating nerd than me to answer.

Finally caved and bought a subscription to Discovery Plus because they have a dedicated feed for the figure skating. They are also pumping the sound through the broadcast like a normal competition. I thought I would be okay because I pay for a TV license, but the BBC really let me down.

What I hope doesn't get lost in the team event narrative this Olympics is the fact that America's pair team getting 4th rather than 5th made the difference. Ilia, Kaori, RikuRyu and Bock were most likely going to top their respective sections so an extra point here or there really made a difference

People complaining about the backflip being legal now in #figureskating need to keep in mind that it also used to be illegal for women to wear anything other than a skirt. The sport evolves, rules change. It's okay.
