deleted the previous posting as I've already decided the direction I'm going, but I had interesting results from the last post. I had a few interesting observations, which I think I'm going to fold into public comm posts in the future (1/2)

As much as I dislike spending time searching for new artists to commission, some of my favorite people to work with I found by taking a random chance on someone I had never worked with before. In fact, a fair few of my favorite artists to work with just draw it for me on commission.

I've been working on VRChat shader stuff and learning shader graphs is very difficult, especially when you're trying to learn very specific things for specific effects. I'm at least making some progress though.

A majority of the artists I follow have migrated here or are dual-posting on this site and twitter. The amount of good content on Twitter has been declining severely as of late. I find myself checking here instinctually now and I'm really happy about that.

DA has really fallen off as a way to find artists to commission. Social media sites like bluesky really seem to be the way to get in touch with good freelancers now. The last few posts I've made on there looking for people to commission have not gained any meaningful traction.

Whenever I find an amazing artist, my first thought is almost always "Hmm, I wonder if they'll draw quicksand?" It's hit-or-miss if they're up for this kind of stuff but reaching out to artists outside of my interest circle just to see if they will has resulted in some of my favorite pieces!

The hardest part of searching for new artists is finding amazing artists you'd love to commission only to find "No NSFW/fetish art" in their commission ToS. It saves me the trouble of reaching out, but man it is disheartening sometimes.

Not only is the opt-out process convoluted, they decide whether you get opted out or not, it's not even a profile setting, it's disgusting. Always disliked ~Meta~ but this just makes me hate them
