As someone who does both (because my output is huge, and I want to extend my reach) this is a legitimate question that authors need to navigate when they look at their publishing paths.

This is an excellent thread. If I'm being honest with myself trauma drove me into self publishing. Having been through multiple publisher implosions within the first few years of my publishing journey + my now dx'd cPTSD = I need control. At this point I don't trust anyone else with my work.
